Our Visit to the Botanical Gardens

On Friday we went to the Botanical Gardens with room 11 and 8.  We were so excited as some of us had not been on a bus before.

It was exciting seeing all the sights out the window.  When we got to the Botanical Gardens the first thing we did was to have our morning tea.

After morning tea, we went into the class were a Botanical Gardens teacher, Caroline, talked to us about what insects are and how to 'classify' or group them.  We thought this was very interesting and we had lots of questions.

After we grouped some insects, because we learnt there are thousands in the world, we went out into the bush to dig for insects.  We were equipped with magnifying glasses, plastic spoons for digging, little paint brushes to delicately put the insects into the containers and off we went.  We were in the bush for about 10 minutes then came back into the class to look at them under the big microscope.
This was very interesting.
After this it was time to leave.  We had such a fun time at the Botanical Gardens and were quite tired on our way home.

Another hard day at work!

We had a great time on our trip to the Botanical Gardens.

House Day Term 2

On Friday 15th June we had our second House Day.  At morning tea, House leaders were selling popcorn, and at lunch time the Leaders had organised games for us to play.
We were encouraged to wear our House t-shirts as well as other things.
If you belong to Blake House, you could come to school dressed as a red sailor.  We spent the afternoon making paper boats.
Hillary students spent the afternoon investigating the height of Mt Everest.
Batten students enjoyed a range of team building games.
Sheppard students could paint a  blue 'v' on their face to symbolise voting.  They could do their hair like Kate Sheppard wore hers.  They spent the afternoon making a 'Kate Sheppard' dress from newspaper.
We all had so much fun.  We can't wait for our next House Day!

Heavy or Light?

We have been learning about what heavy and light means.
Will this be heavy or light and how do we decide what the difference is.

We decided that one book will be lighter than a container of books.

We can lift this container but it is heavy when we compare it to one book.

So now we have a better understanding of what is heavy and what is light.
