Our Visit to MOTAT

To help us learn more about our Inquiry Topic -
Transport: What is the best way to get from here to there?,
a trip to MOTAT was in order.

The best way to get from Botany Downs Primary to MOTAT was by bus of course.
We travelled on the motorway.

When we got to MOTAT, we saw a lot of different and interesting types of transport, both old and new.

MOTAT stands for Museum of Transport and Technology.
Part of our visit involved seeing other parts of MOTAT
and having a go with old methods of technology.
These Whisper Dishes were fun!

So was the Challenge Interactive Room.

Cool Car HG!

Then it was time for our tram ride.
We were quite excited about this, and were waiting patiently.

Wow! There is so much to see!

We stopped at the Air craft hanger.  We thought this plane was about to take off!

The it was back to the rest of our tour.
We saw this tractor which was able to travel in the snow because it had snow chains on its caterpiller wheels.

After this, we went to the teaching room to sort out photo's of old fashion transport and modern transport.
We had fun looking for the real transport models from our photos.

In the Engine room, we learnt that coal is used to make fire to make steam to make the engines move and work.  This was very interesting.  The old steam engines were very noisy and caused a lot of smoke pollution.  It is also very hard work shovelling coal into the fire.

We saw some old bikes and new bikes.

After a very exciting but long day it was time to return to school.  We all enjoyed our Big Day Out at MOTAT.  Gosh all this learning can be tiring!
